Fridolin Blumer (*1984 in Zurich) is a bassist, improviser and interpreter who plays music between jazz, improvised music, new music and pop.
He works internationally as a solo artist, with the bands Ensemble 5 and Blumer-Dell-Geisser-Morgenthaler and as a sideman. An extensive discography on labels such as Leo Records, Hat-Hut, Carpe Diem Records, Unit Records and TCB documents this work.
At the age of eight he began playing the cello and discovered chamber music, at the age of 15 he switched to double bass and jazz. From 2003 to 2008, he studied at the Basel University of Music, Jazz Departement with Bänz Oester, Patrice Moret, Larry Grenadier, Jorge Rossy, Daniel Dettwiler and Charlie Haden. Since 2008 he works stylistically independent as a freelance bassist.
Fridolin Blumer explores the musical tradition, current musical trends, groove/time, sound and the related way of playing the bass. Out of this he develops a personal and new music/musical language.
