About the album

“Dónde son estas serranas” is the new concept album of composer and lutenist Lee Santana, together with German jazz guitarist and composer Andreas Wahl. The program is based on an ancient Spanish love song. It reoccurs throughout the album in different arrangements and compositions, some very close to the original, some very far away from it.

The music ranges from Spanish Renaissance music to contemporary Jazz and Rock elements, creating a mesmerizing fusion of music from very different times and styles, melting centuries of western music culture into something absolutely new, unique and timeless.

booklet text

Who are these guardians?
What flocks do they attend?
Naked, strong, terrible
In the snow, in the dead of the night,
Seductive, dangerous,
Protecting, illusive,
The closer one gets,
The more invisible they become
Making the observer snow blind,
The soul frost-bitten, but softer for the pain.

Maria Pastora
Leads her flock to the pastures
Hojas de la Pastora
In the pine forests of Avila
Hierba de la Virgen
In the sierras of Oaxaca

Can we not but follow you,
Not stray, chase rabbit down hole
But walk through the fog and emerge into light
Through the eros of the body
Through the eros of the mind
Into the Eros of the Soul.
