Lee Santana mit einem weiteren großartigen Album „Cradle of Concetts“ einfach nur empfehlenswert
This is a most wonderful recording of music played on lute (and other related instruments) composed by the little known Elizabethan composer Anthony Holborne. Holborne, of whom little is known and who died in 1602, was highly respected by none other than John Dowland, the most famous lutenist and composer of the day. He left two extensive publications of works, those if 1597 (from which, I believe the items an this recording come), and that of 1599 (which is consort music). Holborne's music for lute, etc. can equal that of Dowland and this disc played by Lee Santana, if it can be found, is perhaps the best one available. Other recommended discs of this music have been made by Federico Marincola (on Disques Pierre Verany) and Jacob Heringman (on ASV).Recordings featuring Holborne's consort music are somewhat easier to find (maybe), but the genius of his works for solo lute simply must be heard for their extreme beauty.
