Rosario Conte (born in Taranto, Italy, in 1966) is an internationally active lute, theorbo, and historical plucked string instrument player who enjoys an outstanding reputation on the European early music scene. His musical training began with the violin and guitar; later studying baroque guitar, lute, theorbo, and basso continuo at the Niccolò Piccinni Conservatory of Music in Bari, where he received the highest honors in both guitar and lute. Between 2002 and 2004, he continued his studies with Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel and has lived in Switzerland ever since.

Conte performs both as a soloist and as a continuo player and chamber musician. He has played with international ensembles such as the Basel Chamber Orchestra, the Accademia Bizantina, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, and the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, and is a regular guest at early music festivals. He has also recorded for renowned labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, Naxos, Sony, and Carpe Diem Records and made radio recordings; he has worked with mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, among others.
